The haute couture house will house 11 exceptional crafts and artisans.
Architect Rudy Ricciotti designed this vessel with its sculptural concrete façade. Highlighting the trades that made Chanel famous: feather workers, boot makers, glove makers, embroiderers, milliners, decorators, folders...
Each will create and magnify French know-how. This ship draped in white concrete will sublimate this once neglected district. And Porte d'Aubervilliers will be given a new lease of life. The 600 employees of the craftsmen and women who work there will be there every day to do justice to this incredible building. The building has been christened 19M. The number 19 was chosen in honor of Coco Chanel, born on a 19th, in the 19th arrondissement.
As for the letter M, it refers to the hand, manufacturing, craftsmanship and, of course, fashion. As you know, at Muance, we love beautiful stories and symbols. Chanel's choice of location is no accident. Above all, it's a tribute to the 19th arrondissement, the birthplace of Gabrielle Chanel. Strategically, 19M is located in the heart of a dynamic area of northern Paris. The ZAC Canal-Porte d'Aubervilliers was once occupied by industry. Today, it is home to Hermès in Pantin. Its 28,000 m2 Cité des métiers has brought new life to the district. It's also home to the Condorcet campus - France's Harvard - Magasins Généraux and Veolia... With the arrival of the tramway and a new economic fabric that will revitalize the north of Paris, it's likely to become the new hype and creative district.
